New Convertors for CD mastering
- a first in Australia
Press release, May 2005.
Melbourne's first mastering facility,
Dex Mastering, has installed a Digital Audio Denmark
24/96 8-channel A/D-D/A convertor, the 2408. This
makes Dex the first CD mastering facility in the country
to feature this unit, used on recent projects including
Melbourne's Baartz Freeman Sextet and band Lamplightl.
This an enhancement both to our flexibility
of operations and maintaining excellence in the audio
signal path", says Mastering Engineer Adam Dempseys.
"These recent projects are sounding
great - 'pure' and 'open'. Our listening tests, including
blind tests against known reference sources, showed
that these convertors, although lacking the hype of
US makers, are right up there for high-end mastering,
as they really impart no 'sound' of their own".
The
2408 supplements the existing 2402 convertor which
will go into Suite 2. Both units feature alias-intermodulation
distortion filtering, designed to eliminate non-musical
harmonic artefacts often generated with typical analogue
to digital audio conversion
Recent projects have also included
albums for legendary jazz drummer Alan Browne, a live
album for Elixir (Katie Noonan of George) and a double
CD collection for Neil Murray (Warumpi Band).
