Digital Audio Denmark Launch Axion.
A state-of-the-art Multi-channel PCM/DSD/DXD Converter.
Press release,
May 2004.
Digital Audio Denmark (DAD) has launched
the new audio converter Axion, thereby expanding the
current product range of high-end AD/DA/DD PCM converters.
Axion provides capability for sampling in the new
high definition formats DSD and DXD for compliance
with the Super Audio CD (SACD) format.
Axion is a combined PCM/DSD/DXD Multi-channel
Converter having an 8 channel integrated AD-DA interface
offering the latest in chip- and digital signal processing
technology. "We would describe Axion as the most
advanced and sonically pure converter ever developed
when aiming for higher sample-rates than 96 kHz",
says Peter Scheelke, Product and sales manager at
DAD.
The sample rate capability of this
unit allows for 44.1kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, 96 kHz,
176.4 kHz, 192 kHz, DSD 1-bit 64fs, DSD 1-bit 128fs
and even supports the new Philips DXD (Digital eXtreme
Definition) 24 bit, 352.8 kHz format for SACD production.
Axion is controlled via the DADman
remote control program for PC via a simple RS-422
link. By the use of conventional adapters, the interface
can also be USB or RS-232.
The clever modular design of the Axion
offers 8 channels of A to D with the option of inserting
up to two 4 channel D to A card resulting in the most
cost-effective means of achieving 8 channels of AD-DA
in 1-bit DSD. A range of audio interfaces for external
equipment are available including the current DADIO
modules as well as MADI and SDIF3.
Users of Merging Technologies DAW
Pyramix using DSD, will benefit from the additional
MADI interface capabilities, offering 8 channels of
DSD/DXD in a single MADI link and allowing two units
to be synchronised using a second MADI link for the
Pyramix 16 channel DSD system.
The retail price is EUR 4.850 + VAT,
for a basic unit.
