"With all the vintage musical instruments available in the studio it is very important to be able to record with a clean and natural warm analog sound, which is exactly the quality we get from the AX24," Bernhard Löhr, studio engineer, RMV Studios

"It is important to have very reliable high-end gear and a very high-end system. The DAD AX24 AD/DA converters should not be noticed in the sound. In fact the AX24 should only be seen with its nice gold face-plate!" Linn Fijal, studio manager RMV Studios.

Benny Andersson is a musician, composer, a former member of the Swedish musical group ABBA (1972-1982), and co-composer of the musicals Chess and Mamma Mia!. He is currently active with his own band and was executive producer for the film version of the musical Mamma Mia!

Since 1998 Benny Andersson has runs a studio at the lovely area Skeppsholmen in the centre of Stockholm just by the water front. But with the lack of proper recording space a wish for at new studio has been present for many years. In 2009 it became possible to acquire an old warehouse premises beside the current studio and finally realise the dream of building a state of the art studio “the old way” large enough to have a band, string ensembles, etc, with a large room, sound booths and mixing room. The studio was ready in January 2011. The daily activities in the studio are handled by studio manager is Linn Fijal and studio engineer Bernhard Löhr.

The studio build was inspired by the best features from the legendary Stockholm studios Polar studio and Atlantis studios. On top of this has been added the ambience of a space where people what to be. It is a place where the is something extra and where the artists feel at home, also with their families in beautiful environments.

The studio is owned by Benny Andersson and his son Ludwig Andersson who’s is also a brilliant musician, now also working with his own record label and other new artists. The Studio has the purpose to serve as “Bennys place”, but certainly also to be rented as a commercial studio. So far recordings have been made by Benny Andersson Orchestra, various Jazz ensembles, Swedish garage rock band The Hives, and background string orchestras.

Due to the building history and the way the interior is made the studio has a really “warm and woody” sound. One can have a creative freedom to use the gear and many instruments in the studio. The aim is to have the best modern and vintage high-end together to be used all the time and maintained to a high standard.

The main gear for recording and mixing Neve 8068 64 channel analog mixing desk with fader automation, Protools HD workstation and AD/DA converters, DAD AX24 AD/DA converters, Neve mic pres 8262 KRK E8, new Genelec 8260A and ATC SCM 300 speakers

The AX24 AD/DA converter set-up is shown below.
